Description
Inspired by the Mexican game called El Loteria, I wanted to make a piece recalling childhood nostalgia, but also an understanding of what it's like to be Mexican-American, chicana. The hand on the bottom comes from La Mano card representing my Mexican heritage. The hand above represents Anglo-American culture. Both hands seem to be reaching out to each other to embrace one another. The center contains a heart but as a nopal, a cactus. One of the native plants of Mexico. The succulents represent absorbency. Which relates to my grasp to American culture while keeping in touch with my Mexican culture.
